What could a slave, a revolutionary, a daughter of high society, a TV personality, a champion of the poor, a social activist , a Bohemian, an Italian immigrant, a French missionary, a child of one of America’s greatest novelists, an archbishop and a Vietnam marine possibly have in common? Well, I can tell you in less than a New York minute. They’re all Catholics, each have left an indelible mark on New York City and they are all universally considered the saintliest of people. In fact, 4 of the twelve have attained sainthood, while the remaining 8 are either Beatified, Venerable, or known as “Servants of God,” as their cause for canonization progresses through the arduous process. Who knew? New York has always been a wonderful mosaic of doer, dreamers, and innovators. It's our history. It's who we are. This walking tour will have you strolling-in-the-steps-of-saints. Like many saints, before their conversion, her life was a very human story. She had two common law marriages, a divorce, attempted suicide, and had an abortion. She went on to found the Catholic Worker Movement, and Catholic Worker newspaper, which still publishes today.
